Don Pedro Florida State Park Guide for Florida Vacationers

Don Pedro State Park is like a private club for those vacationers and locals lucky enough to have access to their own watercraft to take them to this small barrier island park. Unfortunately for those who don’t have access to a watercraft during their vacation, this beautiful secluded island is only accessible by boat or large barge for area residents. Don’t let that stop you from enjoying the spectacular view at Don Pedro State Park, this should be even more reason to head over to a local marina and rent a boat or jetski for the day!

Located just off the southern end of Manasota Key, past Englewood Beach and Stump Pass Beach Park, there is a small break between the Manasota Key barrier island before it connects again to Knight Island. This is where you will find Don Pedro State Park from either the Lemon Bay or the Gulf of Mexico waters.

There is a small place to dock a boat during your visit, with about 25 spots on the Lemon Bay side of the island. Be careful when entering into this area near the docks because it is known for shallow waters of only 2.5 feet or less during the low tide. Remember to keep the tilt all the way up when cruising close to Don Pedro State Park.

If you can’t afford to rent a boat for the day or don’t have the opportunity to bring your own boat from home, consider renting a kayak to access this beautiful picturesque location. Remember, though, that you will need room in your kayak or boat for whatever amenities you may need once you arrive on the beach. Although there are some facilities for restrooms and a few picnic tables and pavilions, stock up on water or other drinks to keep you hydrated or any snacks you might want because there are no concession stands or local stores within walking distance of the park

The small desolate state park is part of a larger barrier island that offers private home ownership at the north and south ends. Home owners would prefer that the island remain all their own but remember that the state has deemed this a public beach and you are more than welcome to dock your boat and enjoy a break from the rough waters before returning to sea.

To find Don Pedro State Park from the water, head down past Manasota Key on either the Gulf or the Lemon Bay side. There will be signs on the water directing you towards the park and towards the docks on the bay side.
