Venice Beach Florida Pet Friendly Vacation Guide

Pet friendly adventures in Venice, FL

Situated halfway down the coast of Florida on the Gulf of Mexico is the timeless, unique town of Venice. The beauty of Venice lies in its ability to maintain a small town atmosphere while also spending a majority of the year catering to vacationers and tourists. Located approximately 20 miles south of Sarasota, Venice offers vacationers a wonderful variety of laid-back adventures in a coastal community with a well-preserved history. There are many historic locations to visit throughout Venice, including the Venice Little Theatre and the oldest home in Venice, built in 1896.

For visitors who have heard of Venice, FL before, it may be because they are the sharks’ tooth capitol of the world. Each year in April, Venice hosts the Sharks Tooth Festival, where shark tooth vendors can come out and show off their fossils and teeth and local residents and visitors can cruise by the beach festival and check things out. Venice is also a favorite spot of local divers who come out to Venice searching for the most unique underwater shark tooth treasures.

Venice is also popular for the more than 30 well-preserved parks and beaches, offering guests a laid-back view of the glimmering white sand beaches of the Gulf of Mexico. One of the most popular beach side areas resides off of Harbor Drive, Brohard Park. This park includes 67 acres of pristine beaches and includes the 700 foot Venice Fishing Pier, Paw Park, South Brohard Beach and Sharky’s on the Pier, the only waterfront restaurant in the Venice area. If there is anything going on in Venice, you are sure to find it at Brohard Park and Harbor Drive.

If you have found a pet friendly vacation rental home in cozy Venice, FL and have decided to bring along your pets for this laid-back vacation, then your next step to completing a pet friendly vacation is to find places to take your pets while vacationing there! Before you get started with your vacation in Venice know that the majority of beach parks are off limits to dogs and other animals. This should not deter you from bring your animals along on the trip though, as Venice is absolutely a pet friendly city. Simply knowing the right places to take your pet will make your trip so much easier.
Venice Intracoastal Waterway ParkThe city of Venice recently built a 10-mile bike/walk path that lines the Intracoastal Waterway. This gives you access to all of Venice on foot and is a perfect way to get out and about with your furry friends.  While the Waterway Park path allows for pooches, there are very strict rules about cleaning up after your dog and making sure they remaining on a leash, so please adhere to these rules. Along the pathway there are lots of places to rest, grab fresh water and there are even clean-up bags placed along the walkway to make cleaning up after your pet easier.

The park starts off in downtown Venice, near the Venice Avenue Bridge and Tampa Ave. and runs ten miles south to Casperson Beach. If you plan on taking a long trip, consider crossing over to Harbor Drive via Beach Road and heading over to Paws Park to cool your pooch down in the water after a long walk.
Brohard Paws ParkOne of the most well-known dog highlights in Venice is the Brohard Paws Park, located at 1600 Harbor Drive, near South Brohard Park. You should easily find Paws Park if you have located Lake Venice Golf Club or the Venice Municipal Airport. If you bring your dog to Venice during your vacation, you cannot leave without a few trips to Paws Park!

This fabulous pet friendly park makes up for not allowing pets on any other Venice beaches. The park includes fenced in areas right near Harbor Drive so dogs can get out and exercise their paws. There are also special places where small dogs can go and enjoy a fenced in run without the fear of being pushed out of the way by the big dogs.

Undoubtedly, though, the best part about Paws Park is the mile long blocked off beach area that is exclusively for dogs! This is a place where dogs can run free, as long as they are well-behaved and mingle with other dogs that are enjoying the Venice sunshine and the ocean.

The park also includes tables for human friends and disposable doggie bags, water, and even doggie showers to clean off the sand and saltwater before getting back in the car. Getting your pets back in the care may prove a difficult task though after a fun afternoon at Paws Park!

Woodmere Paw ParkAlthough Paws Park has taken over as one of the most well-known dog friendly spots in Venice, Venice’s first dog friendly park was Woodmere Paw Park. Located off of Tamiami Trail and Jacaranda Blvd in South Venice at 3951 Woodmere Blvd.

If your dogs are not interested in playing in the water or running with the other dogs, Woodmere is a more peaceful pet friendly park selection. Woodmere is also a great selection if the human owners want to get some exercise or don’t want to be right out in the sunshine. There is a large play area with lots of trees and shrubs for dogs to explore.  The park area is adjacent to a nature trail, which usually isn’t packed and is a great place to let the dogs explore nature a bit before heading back to your vacation rental home.
